Podere «La Beverara»

Bologna

This project involved the conservation, restoration and refurbishment of the buildings in the La Beverara complex. Originally owned by an ancient Foundation, the site contained an 18th century villa and several agricultural outbuildings. The buildings had been uninhabited for a long time, and were therefore in a very poor state of repair. The new owner wanted to use the buildings for residential purposes, whilst retaining the historical features of the complex.

The design asserts the centrality of the farm buildings, preserving their compositional unity. The 18th century villa was structurally reinforced and refurbished with the main features retained, including the large, expansive staircase, the vaulted ceilings and the private chapel. The original size and character of the other buildings was maintained, but the interiors were completely redesigned. The original structure of the stable is still evident thanks to wooden panels on the parts that were once doors.
